The minimum viable practice
1. Sit. 2. Notice the breath. 3. When attention wanders, return. 4. Repeat for some agreed length of time.
That is the entire technique. The rest is commentary.
What actually happens
Within weeks, most people notice that they are not the voice in their head; they are what hears it. This is a small observation with very large consequences. It does not require any cosmology to be true.
On honesty
Meditation is often sold as a productivity tool. It is not. It will, slowly, make many of your ambitions feel smaller. Whether that is a feature or a bug depends on the ambition.
